The Eastern Thailand Isan Adventure Tour
This incredible six-day adventure tour takes you to key cities and hotspots in Thailand’s Eastern region often referred to as ‘ISAN’ via the very best adventure riding routes that we at Motorbike Madness are famous for.
The riding on this tour is truly awesome and full of flowing twisty scenic roads and off-road wooded tree-lined tracks. Stunning viewpoints and photogenic locations.
We take you to the heart of these delightful Eastern cities where the rich culture and history is in abundance. Visit the beautiful Han Kumphawapi lake famed for the stunning Pink Lilies. Marvel at one of the most splendid ancient city ruins. Our fabulous selected route guides you through ancient weaving villages and alongside the Ubolratana Dam and through the heart of the amazing Khao Yai National Park. Allied with our carefully selected lunch stop venues and well-appointed relaxing hotels. This tour really showcases the splendour of the Eastern region and it will deliver on all your riding expectations. DAY 1: Pattaya to Nakhon Ratchasima 348km
Travelling up to Nakhon Ratchasima on the panoramic back roads passing lakes and glorious countryside. Great twisty winding roads are a key feature of this beautiful region. We guide you through some technical off-road sections here which present an opportunity to test your skills as we pass through rubber trees and wooded areas.
We will ride the curvy and serene lakeside road around the Khlong Si Yat reservoir with a scenic photo spot. There will be a nice lunch venue selected for you, called the “relax” for a well-earned break. Then we guide you to ride an amazing off-road track to the elevated wooded viewpoint to take in the striking views from this platform. Savouring all your experiences of this incredible day, we arrive at your selected comfortable hotel conveniently located close to restaurants and the Night Bazaar.
Nakhon Ratchasima is one of the major cities in the Isaan region and is locally known as Korat. It is also well renowned for its silk weaving, clay pottery and a variety of quality handicrafts. Situated close to Khao Yai National Park, it has an abundance of attractions and places of interest.
DAY 2: Nakhon Ratchasima to Khon Kaen 244km
After a nice evening rested we are back in the saddle and we’re on our way, stunning scenery awaits you as we ride today twisty route. Stepping back in time as we pass through traditional Thai villages with their charismatic charm.
We will have a pitstop to see the remains of the ancient city at the Phimai Historical Park. We will take you for a brief walk around the structures which have been beautifully preserved, it’s a fantastic photo opportunity.
We will then ride the flowing twisty route to the Chi River arriving at today’s lunch stop, the beautiful Naramit Na Café with fabulous garden views, bamboo walkway and Italian inspired ornate statues.
Continuing on we will arrive near the university city of Khon Kaen for our evening stopover and well-appointed hotel.
Khon Kaen is a vibrant and funky town that offers many restaurants, bars and cafes. There are two major rivers, the Pong and the Chi running through it. The ornate city park is a focal point with its beautiful relaxed atmosphere, a perfect location for a walk. Khon Kaen is one of the four major cities in the Isaan region and is famed for its high-quality silk production.
DAY 3: Khon Kaen to Udon Thani via the Sakon Nakhon loop – 348km
Today’s selected looping route takes you to the best spots of this region linked together for a spectacular ride including one of Thailand's best riders roads. We guide you through the Marahat Park, this is an excellent stop point for pictures of the beautiful landscape with its panoramic lake views and diverse wildlife.
You will travel over the 2km long elevated Thepsuda Bridge over the Lam Pao river below. This is the perfect time to take in the selected coffee stop break and capture those photo memories.
Now for a real motorcycle experience as you ride one of the most famous Thailand bikers dream roads, consistently voted as one of the best motorcycle roads anywhere in the world. With plenty of cliff top viewpoints, we ride the twisty free-flowing roads past the awe-inspiring Nam Phung lake.
After a relaxing lunch and refreshments, we continue this exciting loop ride.
However, before this most memorable day concludes, we visit the spectacular Nong Han Kumphawapi lake famed for the stunning Pink Lilies, also known as the Red Lotus Lake and treat ourselves to a photo opportunity in this most picturesque location.
We will arrive at our designated hotel situated in the thriving city of Udon Thani to relax and unwind for the evening after a.
The scenic twisty roads continue as this truly fantastic day’s riding concludes in the thriving city of Udon Thani. Time to relax and unwind for the evening.
Udon Thani is a modern, vibrant and cosmopolitan city with lots of amenities and interesting nightlife. This area is well known for breeding orchids and their scents are also used to make perfume. The city is situated amongst rice fields and forests and has a fabulous city park named Nong Prachak, which has a beautiful lake with a central garden of plants and a pathed walkway for exercising during the morning sunrise and evening sunset. It’s well worth a visit.
As always our selected hotel here is very chilled and close to all the restaurants, amenities and nightlife.
DAY 4: Udon Thani to Chaiyaphum – 258km
Today we take you on the best curvy routes right along the dramatic Ubolratana Reservoir. Experience a huge selection of birds and wildlife. Our lunch stop here is situated within fabulous waterside and mountain views and set within the restaurant’s beautiful grounds and paddy fields.
After lunch, we continue the twistys as we pass through the Wat Prong Chang Pha Sawan Monastery. This wonderful temple area is very popular with paragliding and has stunning aerial bird's eye views of the Kaeng Khro district. We continue our journey along a twisty elevated road, passing Mor Hin Khao park with its rock formations of purple and white sandstone. It's another great photo opportunity and an experience not to be missed. We will then arrive at Pha Hua Nak viewpoint with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and a great place to replenish your energy with the clean air and the natural resources.
Today’s selected hotel stop will be waiting for you in the bustling town of Chaiyaphum. Known for its ancient Khmer temple ruins set within a magical historical park. The area is also renowned for sugar cane, tapioca and rice.
DAY 5: Chaiyaphum to Pak Chong 259km
After a hearty breakfast, we depart and it’s not long before we’re back into the heavenly countryside and super flowing back roads of this region. We have skillfully linked together with another super scenic epic ride.
As we ride the trail around the beautiful Pasak River, our guides will point out the elevated Khoksalung railway bridge running over the lake. Its elegant design will impress. This tranquil location makes an excellent location for a riverside lunch stop.
We continue the ride passing temples and beautiful scenery into tonight’s hotel in Pak Chong, but not before we take you through a stunning tree tunnel avenue. It’s been another fantastic and memorable day's ride for sure.
Pak Chong is the most vibrant of towns in the heart of the expansive National Park region. The selected hotel is located on the edge of the National Park where you can soak away the journey and relax in the beautiful surroundings.
DAY 6: Pak Chong to Pattaya via Khao Yai National Park – 270km
This is the home leg of the tour and it’s simply stunning, it will blow you away and finish the tour in style. Khao Yai is one of the best and largest National Parks within Thailand. The road which runs through the centre is a magnet for motorcyclists who find the scenic tight fast curves a real challenge. There are also many excellent photo opportunities in the park and lakeside stop points. The fresher air and cooler temperatures make it a natural home for an abundance of impressive wildlife including elephants and monkeys and many bird species, which can be seen around this magical environment of over 2000 km².
The route is skillfully linked together to perfection, so you really experience the very best from your adventure tour as we meander south back towards home base.
We will then guide you through the renowned local bikers dream district of Bo Thong. Here are some of the best flowing sweeping bends locally to our Southeastern region. The limestone mountains are magnificent to ride alongside whilst taking in the splendour of these roads for a well-earned break, before arriving safely back at the Motorbike Madness HQ.
